GLASS THICKNESS LIMITATIONS
The human impact requirements section of the Building Standards are designed to minimise potential injury to occupants of the building as a result of the glazing.
Location of glazing can play a big role in which requirements are applicable. You constructions plans need to be reviewed by a sales representative or estimator to advise which requirements are mandatory.
Double glazing only applies to the sides of the window accessible by human traffic.
HUMAN IMPACT REQUIREMENTS
Low level glazing less than 500mm from the floor.
Bathroom windows up to 2000mm above the floor.
Schools and child care centre windows up to 1000mm above the floor.
Aged care and nursing home windows up to 1500mm above the floor.
Stairway windows surrounding a distance of 2000mm away from the bottom of the stairs and a distance of 1000mm either side of the stairs.
High risk building such as gymnasiums, halls, public viewing galleries, and stadiums.
